Today I worked on assignment one of the protein bioinformatics project I was able to get information on my assigned protein Pirin o00625 and began to gather information. My protein function transcriptional coregulator of NF-kappa-B which facilitates binding of NF-kappa-B proteins to target kappa-B genes in a redox-state-dependent manner. May be required for efficient terminal myeloid maturation of hematopoietic cells. Has quercetin 2,3-dioxygenase activity (in vitro). Tissue specify Highly expressed in a subset of melanomas. Detected at very low levels in most tissues (at protein level). Expressed in all tissues, with highest level of expression in heart and liver. Belongs to pirin family, Genetic variations in PIR might have a sex-specific influence on bone mineral density differences in some populations. My protein is 90% related to RHIBE ( Rhinopithecus bieti) which another name for is Black snub-nosed monkey. I also found an article that Pirin regulates epithelial to mesenchymal transition independently of Bcl3-Slug signaling. Komai explains in his article Epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) is an important mechanism for the initial step of metastasis. Proteomic analysis indicates that Pirin is involved in metastasis. However, there are no reports demonstrating its direct contribution. Komai investigated more about pirin in EMT which resulted and stated “In HeLa cells, Pirin suppressed E-cadherin expression and regulated the expression of other EMT markers. Furthermore, cells expressing Pirin exhibited a spindle-like morphology, which is reminiscent of EMT. A Pirin mutant defective for Bcl3 binding decreased E-cadherin expression similar to wild-type, suggesting that Pirin regulates E-cadherin independently of Bcl3-Slug signaling. These data provide direct evidence that Pirin contributes to cancer metastasis.”

    Awesome job on gathering the information about your protein.

    I would format the way that your are showing it though.

    A list format might be easier to read the information.

    Be sure to italicize Genus species
